Movement as Culture: Dance in the Middle East, North Africa, and the Diaspora

Conclusion and Bibliography

Conclusion
By exploring these facts and events in the context of a timeline and path, the temporal correlation between increases in Indian labor migration and the resultant cultural exchange between the Gulf Coast and India in the form of Bollywood movement vocabularies and techniques becomes apparent. This temporal correlation between labor migration and Bollywood dance trends sheds light on the underlying biases and connotations that Indians assign to Arab and Gulf identities as they relate to Indian identities. The sociopolitical trends of both native and diasporic Indians across the globe help shape both Bollywood narratives and movement techniques; though narratives of native and American or British diasporic communities are more centered in thematic elements of Bollywood films, the experiences of Arab diasporic Indians are also incorporated in Bollywood films. The impact of other diasporic communities on both Bollywood movement and themes would be interesting future work in this area.
