Description
Jean Vang and Erica Garcia are aspiring dancers from Fresno. Having been born in 1993, after the emergence of Popping in Fresno, they tell their stories of the past, present, and make predictions for the future of the dance scene in Fresno. Jean grew up break dancing with the prominent Hmong break dance scene in Fresno while Erica was heavily involved with coordinating dance routines for cheerleading in high school. They share their insights about their relationship with Fresno dance culture. They tell stories of their love of dance and share how their mentors, training in dance studios, performing at events, and embrace of the history of the Fresno dance scene have influenced them. Both Jean and Erica aspire to dance professionally. The major themes in this oral history include how the younger generation has carried on the legacy of the emergence of popping in Fresno.
